Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina (PCANC), North Carolina’s only statewide organization dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and neglect, presents the inaugural “5 Factors 5K Walk & Run” at Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh on April 14th at 8 am. Proceeds from the event will help PCANC invest in innovative programs proven to prevent child maltreatment before it occurs.
The inaugural “5 Factors 5K Walk & Run” will showcase the five Protective Factors — Parental Resilience, Social and Emotional Competence of Children, Parental Knowledge of Child Development and Parenting Skills, Concrete Support for Parents, and Social Connections — which, when present in families and communities increase the health and well-being of children.
The event will highlight the connection between these five factors and the social and emotional benefits of running and walking. People of all ages and abilities are encouraged to register and share in the very tangible preventions of walking or running in a race together.
Registered walkers and runners will receive a t-shirt and pinwheel temporary tattoo at registration check-in. The temporary tattoo is part of the Pinwheels for Prevention® national effort to raise awareness for effective child abuse prevention efforts. Pinwheels symbolize the great childhoods all children deserve and generate important conversations about investing in children and families.
Race participants have the option of purchasing a Pinwheel Home Kit during registration that can be displayed at home in front yards or at the race site in a special “pinwheel garden” to show commitment to NC’s children and families.
Registration is now open at https://app.racereach.com/event/5-factors-5k-walk-run Registration prices start at $25 for individuals and $60 for a family of four. Prices will increase March 1.
