Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) today announced that it is investing $1 million in the work of Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina (PCANC). This upstream investment will focus on building greater understanding in all sectors about the importance of creating safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments to prevent toxic stress from adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). This investment will allow PCANC to grow public understanding about the importance of investing in families, parenting, and how to implement strategies built on evidence to prevent ACEs.
“Blue Cross NC’s investment in the preventive work that we’re doing demonstrates their commitment to going upstream,” said Sharon Hirsch, PCANC president and CEO. “It’s a game-changer because it’s going to engage other businesses and organizations in understanding that everyone has a role to play in helping to strengthen families to allow children to grow up healthy and safe. We’re so grateful for Blue Cross NC because they are recognizing the importance of this investment and will help us build champions from all sectors in our state to help us improve social, educational and health outcomes for North Carolina’s children and families.
